Just yesterday, Charlie, a Gethrr member, reached out to us to let us know about his father’s current situation. He asked if there was some way we might be able to help and we immediately said yes! As you’re about to read, Charlie’s father Blaine is a wonderful man and we’re grateful to be able to do our part in helping him on his road to recovery. Charlie and his wife Heather wrote the following…
In April of 2014, a few days after his 64th birthday, Blaine Illingworth was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, which has since metastasized to his liver, lungs, gall bladder, and adrenals. Up to that point and even through the subsequent two years, Blaine worked endlessly to provide for his family and do what he could for whomever he could. He has served those in need across the world–from Haiti, Ethiopia, Uganda, the Philippines, and countless people within the Greater Philadelphia area.
At just 5’7”, Blaine remains a giant character amongst men, and always will be. Over the course of his life he has done so much and worked so hard, but now the expenses are taking their toll. Adding insult to this painful diagnosis, a recent trip to the emergency room confirmed that a tumor has occluded the passageway to a portion of his right lung.
Blaine is one of the strongest people you could ever meet. At a time when so many would be well within their rights to give up, he has barely let the cancer slow him down. However, it’s with tremendous grief that now we must make the difficult shift to a different type of work: Making sure that there are enough funds to manage Blaine’s care. From paying any errant medical expenses and bills to transitioning into a smaller residence in order to keep him and his wife, Angela, comfortable as his cancer progresses, the cost of cancer can be measured in both blood and treasure.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for Blaine and Angela to help cover their expenses during this time as they rise to meet this new set of challenges. They have always embodied the change they wished to see in the world, and now it’s our turn to change the world for them.
Gethrr is honored to provide $400 to help with Blaine’s medical expenses. If you’d like to make an additional contribution you can do that at the GoFundMe page.
