Spring is finally here and the weather is even starting to (somewhat) act like that’s the case. Given this, we’re hoping it won’t be hard to convince you, and you friends and family, to mark your calendars for June 17th to run, volunteer, walk, and ultimately help fight Mast Cell Activation Disorder at the Superhero Showdown Race to benefit the Super T Mast Cell Foundation. Gethrr participated in this event last year which raised more than $25,000 to help those fighting the disease.
What brought us to the cause last year and has us back again in 2017? We learned about Taylor, who’s a King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, resident battling MCAD. Taylor (then 19) was an active teenager training for the junior Olympic soccer team. Devastatingly, she was diagnosed with MCAD and transformed from soccer champ to wheelchair-bound and fighting serious allergic reactions, undergoing chemotherapy, requiring round-the-clock Benadryl to keep the allergic reactions at bay, with a feeding tube to keep her nourished.
Since MCAD receives limited exposure, this race helps raise funds to help people like Taylor, and awareness to keep generating resources for research to fight and potentially curse the disease one day.
So how can we help? Participating, donating, and sharing information about the race and people like Taylor’s story to help raise funds for medical expenses and at-home care. Links are available below for sponsorship opportunities, volunteering information, and race-day insight to get you ready to be a superhero in the fight against MCAD.
Be a superhero against MCAD and get out for a fun day in support of a good cause. Don your literal (or figurative) cape and get out there! We hope to see other caped crusaders out there on June 17th!
